Leadership meeting

Review of June minutes and approved

Reports

* Set-up: Having church outside worked well, but sound was still an issue. Elevate the amp and have it angled right. A lot of people chose to sit in the chairs available. We should bring up more chairs from downstairs. There are folding chairs available, but they may need to be cleaned.
* Nominating Committee: The nominating committee is working on a letter to send to those whom we would like to join the leadership team. Also, we will be sending along the Bible study that CV worked on, and was approved by the NC. - Liz H.
* JAC: Jake and Shontee are committed to the JAC team and I'd like their passions and energy to be utilized. I'm thinking of meeting with them and asking them where they would like to focus their energies, rather then trying to have regular meetings at this time. I'm feeling like it is more program then passion right now. It will continue being Vibrant's aim to implement justice, advocacy, and compassion into all areas concerning the church. - Erin W.
- Home PDX and Dodoma are how we are live out JAC.



* Membership: We have been busy with our Membership meetings. Kam and I met with the Michael and Hannah Irvine and had a informal interview with the both of them. Pending the approval of the rest of leadership they will be members. It was really good to meet with them and to get their feedback/ideas on things. I will share this at LT Meeting. We also held a membership class. I emailed and called twelve people that are regular attenders and three attended the meeting with Kameron, Stacy Croft and I. Forrest and Elizabeth Johnson, and Melodie McDevitt. I thought our meeting went really well. It was nice to have everyones perspective on our vision and values and what it means to be a member. Elizabeth asked some really good questions regarding the reason we thought we haven't grown as a church and about membership. - Josh D.
- Jaclyn and Gabe would like more information.
- Feedback from Irvine's: Feel committed to Vibrant; would like to see us grow; worship ministry and Tanzania ministry is where their heart is, Speaker Team idea can be tough, but is good; had some ideas about the retreat; see some needs for change in c-groups. The Dill's thanked them for being apart of our congregation. Leadership Team approves Hannah and Michael Irvine's application. There was also a vote and Liz Nelson is also now an official member.
- The membership meeting went well partly because we have a better understanding of who we are then we have in the past.
- We may need to have an in between class or something for just information and for those after they become members. Folks don't just get it right after a meeting.
- Possibility of a DVD about our story.

MMC: MMC did not meet. We will be meeting next week. - Josh D.

Speaker Team: Meeting July 26th.

Worship Team: Discussing Mission Statement. There will be a lot of Worship Team folks gone in August, so things will most likely look a little different.



Financial state of the church:

* How is CV? - If we are trying to get CV a paycheck, we're walking the wrong road. If we are trying to sustain Vibrant, then that's the right direction. If we're sticking together and walking this road, without CV leading the way, we'll do okay. This isn't about rescuing CV.
* Justin called Mark Novak - We're in a tough place, we have a good ministry and we want to be a congregation, and we'd like to give our pastor a pay check. Board meeting on July 12th. He wants a financial report and ministry report.
* Ministry report will include the following:
- Cover Letter: Story, Reports (JAC, MMC, Worship, C-Groups, Children, and Discipleship), Present (shifted from growth to maintenance), and Future. They also want to know how we got to where we are at.
* Plan for writing the report:
o CV will write the story of Vibrant and Josh N/ will work on editing and writing where we are now.
o Erin Weiss or Lindsay will be writing the MMC piece
o Justin will write the financial part
o We will be asking Andrea Burnett to help with the children’s ministry piece.
o Erin and Kam will work together to answer the questions from the covenant.
o Justin will write about the prospect for growth.
o Josh N. is going to work on compiling and the overall presentation.
o Justin and Stacy will be going to the board meeting on the 12th.
* We need to prepare for some tough questions: why don't we meet earlier, why don't we meet closer to our demographic...
* The Covenant will want to know if we are in turmoil.
* We simply don't have the resources to make the steps we want to make. We kind of need to relaunch.
* How much money do we ask for? We have had less then $10,000 for several years and we can sustain with that, but can we grow with that? What about marketing or possible new space/time? Should we ask for more?
* Money is not going to solve our problems, we need growth and people invested in Vibrant.
* Does it make more sense to meet in the morning? It is cultural more accepted.
* We can grow at 3:30 if we make more changes, but would it just be substaining?
* We will have to make changes, because we've been focusing on ourselves.
* Whether we ask for 10 or 50 thousand, it shouldn't change the way we look at it.
* There may be a negotiation, especially if we ask for a higher number such as $50,000
* We need to ask Mark Novak to come specifically.

Other discussion items:

* CV and Stacy would like to get pregnant and therefore will be switching healthcare to Bethany healthcare benefits so that they can participate in IVF. Although it is more expensive, CV will be covering the difference in cost with his salary.
* Start up the monthly potluck/BBQ/snacks with information table available

Calendar:

* We are going to be having a big party in October to celebrate being Vibrant.
* August 13th – BBQ to end Thursdays in the Park.
